Situated in the center of town and directly on the water, Downtown Greenwich is truly the hub of town. There is a mix of residential areas which include luxury towers, townhomes, and historic single-family homes. The area is dense and almost everything is walkable which makes it a great transitional area for New Yorkers escaping the city.
Greenwich Avenue is well known for its world class shopping and dining. There is something for everyone from locally owned boutiques like Out of the Box, a women’s store that has a little bit of everything and Shoes ‘N’ More a shoe and accessory store that has been on “The Ave” over 20 years to luxury department stores like Saks and Restoration Hardware. One of the area’s most popular spots to grab a drink or dine directly on the water is L’escale Seafood Restaurant and Bar. For a more low-key affair, the locals flock to Gingerman for its relaxed atmosphere, pub food and huge beer menu.
The downtown area has several parks, each with their own unique uses. Havemeyer Field & Greenwich Common is directly off of the Ave and offers a great place to relax after shopping, has a ball field, a playground, a soccer field and a running track. Bruce Park has walking paths that meander through rolling meadows, brackish streams, and wooded areas. There is also a gigantic playground suitable for children of all ages. Roger Sherman Baldwin Park is located directly on the Sound. It is home of the town’s teen center Arch St, a skate park and a large meadow that hosts the Greenwich Town Party, a yearly concert for residents that has had artists like Eric Clapton, Paul Simon and Steely Dan headline.
